McWilliam’s has a long and prestigious history in producing fortified wines. With its wealth of experience, McWilliam’s affords its wines time to cellar and releases them only when they have reached optimum maturity.
This Show Reserve Rare Tawny is matured in French oak barrels for 25 years to give you a rich and full palate of raisins, dark chocolate and Christmas pudding.
Lifted intense aromas of aged-oak nutty flavours, with walnut, pistachio and vanilla oak characters show the refinement of a true barrel aged tawny. The palate is round, luscious and long but has fine tannins which balance out the sweetness and help make the finish of the wine dry and savoury.

With an average age of 25 years across the blended components, this beautiful fortified is a testament to this country’s vinous past, a legacy of those who crafted it and proof of the outstanding quality of this category of wine. Rancio aromas calibrate the senses to the complexity at hand. Cheesecloth, varnish, lacquered duck, toasted walnut, ginger, five-spice, creme caramel and orange zest. I could write more given the cavalcade of scents, textures and flavours, but this is surely sufficient to convey grandeur.
