STEPHANIE LUCAS

From a young age, Steph has always been interested and passionate for all things wine, food and science. It was after High School that she decided to follow this interest, enrolling in a Bachelor’s Degree of Wine Science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.

During her studies, Steph pursued working in wineries, gaining experience in both the cellar and laboratory. Excited to learn more about the wine industry, Steph undertook an overseas vintage in Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario, Canada) where she learnt the unique wine making process for Icewine, and overall gained a greater appreciation of Canadian wine styles.

After returning to Australia, Steph joined the winemaker traineeship at Charles Sturt University and from there joined McWilliams Winery for eight vintages, where she learnt a wide range of varieties and styles of winemaking practices. During this time, Steph was able to pursue another International Vintage in the Franconia/Franken region of Germany, where she had the privilege of working with a wide range of cooler climate styles and learning valuable winemaking skills.

Bringing several years of industry experience, Steph has returned to McWilliams and currently enjoys creating some exciting and delicious wines alongside the Winemaking team, with a particular interest in the alternate varietals as well as regional classics.
