McWilliam’s Cool Climate Chardonnay

Cooler climate regions provide a longer period of ripening, supporting the slow development of complex flavours and creating an elegant and balanced style of wine that partners many cuisines. In this Chardonnay the lifted and aromatic characteristics from the cooler, higher altitude vineyards in Hilltops are complemented by parcels from Gundagai that add depth and length to this unmistakeably cool climate wine.

Hilltops & Gundagai, New South Wales

Aromas of citrus blossom and stonefruit are supported by subtle vanillian oak and a subtle hint of oyster shell.

The palate is soft and fruit driven with an added creamy texture from lees stirring. Fruit flavours of melon and stonefruit dominate a richly textured palate and are well balanced with subtle oak nuance.

I always like it when the price and alcohol reading match. Trainspotting at its finest. Cool climate here refers to grapes grown in the Hilltops and Gundagai regions. Warmer versions of cool. Beautifully designed labels. This starts flavoursome and finishes crisp. Green melon, apple, nectarine and citrus notes. Gently but not overtly textural. Clean and well made.
