McWilliam’s are proud to launch a trio of premium, single vineyard wines. These award winning wines are sourced from specially selected vineyards meticulously nurtured by our experienced viticultural team to produce distinctly elegant and balanced wines. They are a true testament to McWilliam’s philosophy of championing two of New South Wales’ emerging cool climate regions – Hilltops and Tumbarumba.
As Senior Winemaker, Andrew Higgins, explains, “the Single Vineyard range is an exciting development for McWilliam’s winemaking. Being site specific they showcase individual quality and personality, delivering wines of nuance and detail. This enables our viticulture and winemaking teams to push the quality and learn more about the terroir of each vineyard.”
With fruit meticulously grown and handpicked by the gravelly voiced Rob Parkes on his beautiful Glenburnie vineyard. The cool aspect and rich volcanic soils of the east facing Tumbarumba site produce a distinctly elegant yet intense style of Chardonnay, infused with pristine, green citrus and melon fruit flavour characteristics. This vintage was awarded 96 points from James Halliday and runner up in the 2016 Halliday Chardonnay Challenge as well as three gold awards from Australian wine shows.
Situated on the rolling slopes of the Hilltops region, the Hillrose vineyard fruit is nurtured by Clark Family; third generation Hilltops farmers. The handpicked fruit results in an elegant and spicy medium bodied Shiraz with fleshy blueberry fruits, vanilla oak and some punchy tannins. This vintages has been awarded six gold medals from Australia including the Royal Perth Wine Show, Royal Adelaide Wine Show and Canberra and Region Wine Show.
Featuring fruit from the best block on the McWilliam’s vineyard, tended by our very own Chris Coddington. The laconic, yet cheeky Chris believes the gentle inland slopes of the Hilltops region is the best place in Australia to grow world class Cabernet. The wine was awarded 97 points and judged to be the best Australian Cabernet Sauvignon at the recent 2016 James Halliday Cabernet Challenge show. Higgins commented, “2014 was a supremely perfect growing season. Below average winter rainfall and a warm, dry growing season resulted in open canopies, low yields and intensely flavored fruit. The wine is a classic, vibrant cabernet – infused with silky blackberry fruits and fine graphite tannins.”
