Our new range Off The Press is the perfect match for food. Here we look at the best food and wine matches for each of the delicious reds.
Off The Press: Shiraz
TASTE: Grown from the diverse regions of New South Wales, the fruit expresses regional character with a back bone of expert winemaking. The 2016 vintage experienced even ripening with just the right amount of rain, allowing for balanced progression of fruit flavours, acidity and tannins. Pouring the wine into the glass the vibrant purple colour displays a welcoming glow. The definitive plum and dark cherry aromas with hints of white pepper and vanilla, give a great vibe and encouragement to taste the wine.
As soon as you have a sip, luscious dark red fruit character of plums, dark cherry with a touch of mulberry continue to a generous and juicy mouth fill. Aged for nine months in premium American oak, soft tannins and a touch of vanilla round out the finish.
FOOD: After the first sip we were hanging out for a juicy steak as the perfect match but we’d happily go with a good homemade pizza or a rich pasta dish.
SHOP: Off The Press Shiraz
Off The Press: Cabernet Sauvignon
TASTE: With fruit sourced the regions including the Hilltops and Riverina, the winemaking team have crafted this wine to allow the true regional characters to be expressed. The deep purple and crimson colours elude to the richness of the wine, with the distinctive aromas of blackcurrant fruit, blood plums and a lingering mint encouraging you to explore the wine further. Elegant fine tannins are well integrated providing structure and length to the palate. Cassis and black cherry flavours along with a subtle vanilla and brown spices are enhanced by the nine months spent on French oak.
FOOD: Given the intensity of flavours in this wine, any food match needs to be big and bold, so we suggest either a delicious homemade lasagne or a vintage cheddar. A BBQ steak will also work well.
Off The Press: Shiraz Tempranillo
TASTE: Sourced from the diverse regions of Gundagai, Hilltops and the Riverina, the fruit expresses regional character with a back bone of skilled winemaking. The 2016 vintage was an even fruit ripening season, not to hot or too cold, which allowed for balanced progression of fruit flavours, acidity and tannins. As soon as the cap is opened you notice the distinctive aromas of red cherries, plums and expresso coffee. Once in the glass, the wine shows rich purple colours with a glossy shine to it.
Black spices show through with pepper, liquorice and smoky oak aided by some extra pumping over the skins to extract all the flavours. The fruit shows up immediately as you sip the wine with distinctive Shiraz moving into a savoury spicy Tempranillo roundness. Spending nine months in premium American Oak enhances the spices, complexity and softens the tannin to produce a very elegant balanced wine.
FOOD: This red is screaming out for some chargrilled chorizo or a juicy burger.
